You better watch out, Raincross Quilt Guild Christmas Zoom meeting is coming!

Oooooh, you better watch out! You better not cry! You better not pout, because the meeting's has changed!

Raincross Quilt Guild is comin' to Zoooooom!

Yes, you heard right (or you remember from the announcements last month) that this month's quilt guild meeting is back in the Land of Virtual Toys - and that's OKAY! We've got games and toys for all good girls and boys!

We encourage you to wear Holiday attire, so break out those ugly Christmas sweaters, Santa hats, and antlers and wear them during the meeting!

As we have done in previous Zoom guild meetings, we will have a virtual Show and Share, so please get your pictures to Cassandra G. no later than 5pm Monday December 19th. You can share your new work but we also encourage you to share your favorite project you completed or worked on this year, or share a Christmas thing (even if we've seen - we're old and forgetful, so it'll be like it's new). Don't forget to also send pictures of any BOM blocks you've completed that you haven't shown yet. Again, please get your pictures to Cassandra (by email or text, contact information is in the directory or simply post below and we'll figure it out) no later than 5pm Monday December 19th to be included.

The link to the Zoom will be posted in the Raincross Quilt Guild Facebook group as well as emailed to all current members.

Saturday Sew Day this month is THIS weekend, not on the 4th Saturday

The 4th Saturday of the month this month is Christmas Eve, so instead of trying for that, we are rescheduling our Sew Day for this Saturday, December 17th instead! We will meet, like always, at the Lake Mathews Community Room 16453 El Sobrante Rd, Riverside, CA 92503, across from the fire station. We'll start at 9am and typically go to 3pm and have a potluck salad lunch (bring something to go with salad greens or a side or a dessert). If you have any questions, reach out to Barbara M. See you there!

Reminder: Guild Meeting next Tuesday (with new information about the meeting!)

Along with the reminder that our regular guild meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday starting at 6pm at the Goeske Center, we have new information to share about this meeting as well as the December meeting.

Starting first with the December meeting: the Goeske Center's hours for December mean that we unfortunately cannot have an in person meeting there next month. But never fear! Santa elves are busy planning a fun filled holiday extravaganza of a meeting via Zoom -- more details to come soon. This will mean, however, that we will miss having a regular holiday potluck at the December meeting, one we're sure everyone has missed since our last one was December 2019.

So, instead of having a holiday potluck in December this year, we're having a Thanksgiving potluck at the November meeting! Have a new recipe you've been anxious to try out for the holidays? Well give it a try and we'll be your guinea pigs! Bring your taters, your stuffing, your gravy, your pie...sheesh, I'm already getting hungry.

Note: bringing a dish to the potluck is not at all required and is open to whomever would like to participate.

And we are still having our Grab Game, so join in the fun!

Here's your reminder list of things to bring:

  • Your homemade name badge
  • Your Show and Share quilts
  • Your Grab Game item
  • Your October Block of the Month
  • Your Raincross Quilt Guild pin, which is worth an EXTRA ticket in the door prize drawing! If you don't have one, you can purchase one for $5 at the door.
  • Bottled water or other non-alcoholic drink
  • If you feel inspired, a dish for the potluck.

November Grab Game - Make What You Want!

It's that time of year again and we're getting ready for our annual November Grab Game! This year the theme is Make What You Want, dealer's choice! Feeling like making a table runner, or a mug rug, or a pincushion? How about a casserole carrier, Christmas stocking, or small bag? It's your choice, just make sure it's something you've made.

We'll be bringing them to the November guild meeting, Tuesday November 15th - in whatever bag or wrapping you choose! And remember, please make something nice enough that you would want to keep it.

Please let us know if you have any questions!

Spots still open for the Raincross 2022 Round Robin "Surround Yourself with Friends"

We are still taking sign ups for the Raincross Quilt Guild 2022 Round Robin! Please contact Cassandra G. to confirm.

The rules: you will make a center with a minimum 6" x 6" and a maximum of 16" x 16" (or thereabouts). Add that to the bag provided. Feel free to add a label for the other quilters to sign, fabric for them to use, chocolates, whatever! We will add a sheet in each bag for each quilter to add their name (so that you can make your label later if you want or feel free to include a label in the bag, etc.).

For each exchange, make and sew on an interesting border of at least 4" to 12" wide (or thereabouts) to the previous center. Be creative and try to follow their theme. Make something that you'd want to keep!

Add your name to the sheet provided (and on the label if the original quilter included one) and bring back the bag you have at the next designated meeting (or make sure someone can bring it for you) and take the next bag. We will exchange four times, every other month and then everyone gets their own original round robin back.

Timeline:

August 2022 guild meeting: Bring your center (in the bag or get your bag if you haven't already) to pass and take home first exchange

October 2022 guild meeting: Bring in the bag you have and exchange #2

December 2022 guild meeting: Bring in the bag you have and exchange #3

February 2023 guild meeting: Bring in the bag you have and exchange #4

April 2023 guild meeting: Bring in the bag you have and take home YOUR bag

June 2023 guild meeting: Bring in your completed quilt to show!

Please contact Cassandra G. if you have any questions!

Sewing Donations Needed for Weinsteins2Uganda

From Paula W.:

"In 2 short weeks, Yvonne Weinstein will be visiting from Uganda.  As you remember, we have supported her with quilting supplies the past few years. The Weinstein's are expanding, and Yvonne has even trained Gabriel, formerly the security guard, to teach sewing and travel to other places. Since they have expanded, more supplies are needed. If you are able to help, Yvonne has a wish list of things that are needed:

3 fine mist spray bottles

4 seam rippers

3 pincushions

8 scissors

4 rotary cutters

Rotary blades

1  24" ruler

1 cutting mat 18" x 24"

3   6 1/2  x 12 1/2" rulers

Thread-black, white, cream

3 Chalk markers and chalk

If you prefer to make a monetary donation, I will also collect money and shop for what is still needed. If you cannot donate at this time, thoughts and prayers are needed and they don't cost anything but are just as important.  Please bring your donations to our next meeting on Tuesday, April 19th at the Goeseke Center. If you have any questions, give me a call, text, or email. Thank you! Paula The Crazy Lady"

Giving children a comforting hug with Childhelp quilts

From Barbara K., a reminder about making quilts for Childhelp:

"For those who aren't familiar with Childhelp, it is a national non-profit organization with one of its group homes located in Beaumont. They offer both physical and emotional support to abused and neglected children.  Upon arrival at the facility, each child is presented with a welcome bag and a quilt of their own...a "warm hug" at a time when there might not be so many real hugs in their lives.

Our guild has been supporting Childhelp for several years now. As with everywhere else due to Covid, their facility was closed to all but emergency situations so they haven't needed quilts and, at this time, have a supply on hand.  However, with things opening up, they anticipate by the end of the year they may be back to full capacity again.

If you would like to participate by making a quilt or two (or more), please feel free to do so! We welcome your help! Some things to keep in mind as you do, the children are not infants or preschooler; they range in age from 6 to 14 and there are both boys and girls in residence. Please choose fabrics/prints and designs accordingly. No baby quilts, please.

Quilts should be lap or "snuggle" size:  minimum 38" x 48" and maximum 48" x 66". If you are looking for ideas, one suggestion is to check 3 Yard Quilts by Donna Robertson. There are several books as well as postcard-size individual patterns. The quilts are quick, easy to make and meet the size requirements.  Of course, you are only limited by your own creativity!

If you have questions, or need additional information, please feel free to contact Barbara K or Dawn Marie at the next Guild meeting."
