May 2018 Meeting Review

Batter up! Last Tuesday night we welcomed the Batty Lady and her husband the Batty Guy, aka Alicia and Steve. Alicia shared with us fantastic information about batting, the different types, and recommendations on when to use what type of batting. And she and Steve brought tons of batting and related notions from their store to sell. Thank you Batty Lady and Batty Guy!

Elly H. shared with us our next Block of Month, another Disappearing Four Patch, although it's hard to believe when you see the block. The instructions are available here. For those who picked up a printed copy the night of the guild, please note that there was an error: you will need to cut 4 squares out of the two fabrics 7 1/2".

Be sure to check out all the beautiful quilts we saw during our normal Show and Share segment.

Evie announced the next Hoffman Tour, which scheduled for Monday July 30th. For those who want to attend and carpool together, please check in with Evie and then plan to meet in the JC Penny parking lot at 8am.

The next guild quilt retreat is planned for the Campbell House in Twentynine Palms November 1st-4th. The total cost is $398 and space is limited! Contact Barbara M. and get your $50 deposit check into her today.

The 2018 Raincross Sewing Room Tour is now scheduled for Saturday September 29th. More details to follow.

Friendship Quilters is looking to bolster their ranks so if you're available the 2nd and/or 4th Wednesday night of the month, come join us at the Goeske Center and help make quilts for the kids in the Head Start program, which helps pre-schoolers and low income kids.

We had a visit from some fine ladies of the Inland Empire Quilting Guild to announce their Brown Bag raffle night Monday June 11th at 6:30pm at the Norco Teacher's Association, 1189 Mountain Ave # 100, Norco, CA 92860. They will have 250 baskets of quilting and crafting supplies - buy your tickets and drop tickets in the bags of the baskets you want to win. A winning ticket will be pulled from each bag. Tickets are 1 for $1, 6 for $5, 25 for $20, and 60 for $40. The proceeds go to help the general fund of the Inland Empire Quilting Guild.

Gloria H. was not able to attend, but she sent a lovely letter from the Child Help organization thanking us for helping make quilts for the children. She noted that they are looking for quilts suitable for boys at a 48" x 62" size.

Our intrepid President Jeri R. will unfortunately will not be able to lead us at the June meeting, so our friend and guild mate Tammy A. will help hold an old fashioned Sewing Bee! Bring your quilting handwork projects, knitting, crocheting, or what have you and prepare to spend some time stitching and visiting with friends! If you have a conundrum on a project, bring it to share and get advice from the collective quilting hive mind. As a reminder, there is no potluck at the June meeting - we'll have having our summer potluck at our Christmas in July meeting the following month.

Finally, it was a pleasure your humble reporter to put together the Mystery Box for the May meeting and to sneakily present our Jeri with a surprise birthday mystery box! Thank you so much for everyone who contributed me and forgive me if I didn't get a chance to ask everyone if they'd like to contribute. We're still looking for more Mystery Box volunteers, so please contact Jeri if you are interested.
