Workshop Saturday 8/23

Hello, We hope you plan to join us this Saturday to sew whatever you like, participate in Ken's Workshop or assemble a small quilt from start to finish in 4 to 6 hours.  All this Saturday from 9:30 to 4 PM at the Goeske Center in our usual meeting room.  We'll be sharing a salad lunch, so bring something to add to the salad or dessert or ???  We always have a great lunch to share with everyone.

Ken will be making a bucket from an Atkinson Designs pattern.  The instruction are only $25 which includes the pattern, the mesh, etc.  You will bring your fabric for the outside.  Call Ken for more details.  His number is in the directory and he'll give you the suppy list over the phone.

This is a QAYG with no sashing.

Angie N will be helping you put together a neonatal quilt or helping you with your own project.  To make a 32" neonatal quilt you will need:

Sixteen 8 1/2" orphan blocks or squares of fabric - your choice.
Sixteen 8 1/2 squares of thin batting - warm and natural is a good choice.
A 34" square of fabric for your backing.  Plan on it being your binding, so check how it would do as binding on the front.  This type of QAYG does not have sashing.

Bring your sewing machine, walking foot, thread, pins, scissors, ruler, cutting board and rotary cutter.
Call her if you have any questions - She's in the directory, too.  Come learn the process while you make and finish an actual quilt.

Next --A Fat Quarter Challenge

This next meeting, Tuesday, August 19, I have fat quarters for all who have signed up and paid for this challenge.  There are still about 14 fat quarters that can go to those who did not sign up at the July meeting.  Those who are prepared to be challenged will each receive a number and will collect the bag with the same number.  Each fat quarter is different!!  There will be no trading, please.

With this fat quarter you are to make a project that uses the log cabin style of construction.  There are many different looks for this type of construction, so be creative.  A minimum of 100 square inches (a 10" x 10" square) of the fat quarter must be used on the FRONT of the project; this includes the border as well.  The 10" x 10" square can be cut up and used throughout the project.

A fat quarter has a total of about 360 square inches so the minimum amount of the fat quarter is not too large.  Any type of project you wish can be used: pillow, wall hanging, table runner, quilt, hot pad, embellish a towel, purse/bag, sewing machine cover, etc.  Happy sewing!
