Join us for the Raincross Stitchmas Christmas

In lieu of our regular December guild meeting, you are cordially invited to the Raincross Stitchmas Christmas taking place this coming Tuesday evening, December 14, at the Janet Goeske Center in Room D (just behind the information desk) and on Zoom at our normal time of 6pm.

We invite you to bring your own stitching to work on and well as the notions you may need to do so and if you have one, a battery operated light as lighting in Room D is a bit softer than in our regular room.

As a special treat, Barbara M. is making everyone who attends a small make and take project, so be sure to bring hand sewing needles, thread, and scissors (as well as a battery operated light if you have one) to participate.

In addition to enjoying this special Stitchmas, we will also have Show and Share, Block of the Month, and door prizes (thanks Chris K.!). While we will not be having a potluck, you may bring your own food to eat if you wish.

Hope to see you there!

P.S. If you would like to pay for your 2022 guild membership, please print and fill out the membership form and bring $25 dollars as Dawn M. will start accepting those next week at Stitchmas.

Reminder guild meeting tonight!

Better late than never - it's guild meeting tonight! As a reminder, the Goeske Center is still requiring everyone to wear a mask covering their nose and mouth regardless of vaccination status while inside the facility.

For those of you who cannot attend in person or who may not feel comfortable attending in person, we are actively looking into broadcasting the guild meeting live via Zoom.

Here's your reminder list of things to bring:

  • Your homemade name badge
  • Your Show and Share quilts
  • Your August Block of the Month (and other blocks if you're catching up)
  • Your Raincross Quilt Guild pin, which is worth an EXTRA ticket in the door prize drawing! If you don't have one, you can purchase one for $5 at the door.
  • Bottled water or other non-alcoholic drink

P.S. Here's a video of Shelly N. giving her tips and trick tutorial on putting together a large applique block with blanket stitching for the BOM!

Making quilts for Childhelp

From Barbara K. --

"For those who aren't familiar with Childhelp, it is a national non-profit organization with one of its group homes located in Beaumont. They offer both physical and emotional support to abused and neglected children.  Upon arrival at the facility, each child is presented with a welcome bag and a quilt of their own...a "warm hug" at a time when there might not be so many real hugs in their lives.

Our guild has been supporting Childhelp for several years now. As with everywhere else due to Covid, their facility was closed to all but emergency situations so they haven't needed quilts and, at this time, have a supply on hand.  However, with things opening up, they anticipate by the end of the year they may be back to full capacity again.

If you would like to participate by making a quilt or two (or more), please feel free to do so! We welcome your help! Some things to keep in mind as you do, the children are not infants or preschooler; they range in age from 6 to 14 and there are both boys and girls in residence. Please choose fabrics/prints and designs accordingly. No baby quilts, please.

Quilts should be lap or "snuggle" size:  minimum 38 x 48; maximum 48 x 66. If you are looking for ideas, one suggestion is to check 3 Yard Quilts by Donna Robertson. There are several books as well as postcard-size individual patterns. The quilts are quick, easy to make and meet the size requirements.  Of course, you are only limited by your own creativity!

If you have questions, or need additional information, please feel free to contact Barbara K or Dawn Marie at the next Guild meeting."

Live In Person Guild Meeting Tonight & Yard Sale

Sorry for the late notice, but hey, better late than never!

Short and sweet, yes, we are meeting again in person tonight at the Janet Goeske Center. The door to our meeting room will open at 6pm. Please enter the Goeske Center through the main entrance and check in at the kiosk. The Goeske Center now requires everyone to wear a face mask at all times while in the facility.

Tonight is our Yard Sale, so please feel free to bring items to sell. Please remember that you MUST take home anything that you brought that does not sell.

See you at 6pm! And yes, we will be streaming the meeting via Zoom as well - Zoom meetings details will be available on the Facebook group or feel free to email the guild at raincrossqg @ gmail . com

- Cassandra G.

7/15/21

You're invited back for the 1st in person guild meeting next Tuesday!

Ed. If you don't recognize me, I'm the third from the left.

The Goeske Center has reopened, following the State of California guidelines, and has invited us to resume meeting in person on our normal night and time, and in the same room. They are requiring that all Goeske Center members and visitors enter through the main door and fill out a new registration form - we will not be able to enter through the side door we have used in the past. Please proceed to the main entrance and follow the instructions.

You can, if you like, drop by the Goeske Center before Tuesday and fill out the new registration form to speed up your entrance on Tuesday night. You can still use your existing barcode sign in card (if you have one) at the sign in kiosk, but regardless, everyone needs to fill in the new registration form. If you do not have an existing barcode sign in card, one will be given to you.

The door to our meeting room (from the internal hallway) will open at 6:00 pm, the meeting starts 6:30 pm, and the Center would like our meeting ended by 8:30 pm.

Following the State of California guidelines, vaccinated persons are not required to wear face coverings, although you are welcome to wear one if you wish.

If you still have not paid your 2021 guild membership or not picked up your Raincross Quilt Guild 2021 Fabric Challenge fabric, Dawn M. will be at the Raincross membership sign in desk when the doors open.

You are welcome to bring and enjoy your own snacks/meal/beverage (non-alcoholic) and we will look at renewing our normal potlucks at a future meeting.

For those of you who cannot attend in person or who may not feel comfortable attending in person, we are actively looking into broadcasting the guild meeting live, most likely via Zoom. Stay tuned!

Beyond just the joy of finally being together again, we're looking forward to our regular Show and Share, seeing our Christmas in July Challenge projects, buying tickets for this month's Mystery Box, and Angie's Treasure Boxes (for those who are unfamiliar, we're excited to tell you about it)!

Here's your reminder list of things to bring:

  • Your homemade name badge
  • Your Show and Share quilts
  • Your Christmas in July Challenge quilt/project
  • Your June Block of the Month
  • Your Raincross Quilt Guild pin, which is worth an EXTRA ticket in the door prize drawing! If you don't have one, you can purchase one for $5 at the door.
  • Bottled water or other non-alcoholic drink

Please let us know if you have any questions and we can't wait to see you all Tuesday!

P.S. Here's that video of Andie B. giving her tips and trick tutorial on paper piecing to help us with our paper pieced BOM!

RQG 2021 Christmas Mystery BOM Layout Options

Many thanks to guildmember Pam W. who asked me about this year's Christmas Mystery Block of the Month layout so that she could figure out her fabric placement. While I'm not going to give away the "mystery" part, I am quite proud of the blocks we're using because it allows for a lot of personal choice in how you layout the finished blocks. It should be make everyone's quilt unique!

The quilt is comprised of 11 blocks and has a finished sized (before you add any additional borders, etc) of 52" x 48". Those 11 blocks are one of four finished sizes:

Both A Blocks are 18" x 18" - these can be placed in your desired order

Block B is 12" x 30"

Block C is 10" x 48"

All of the D Blocks are 12" x 12" - these can be placed in any order

You can reorganize groups of blocks. For example, you can place 3 of the D Blocks above the A Blocks.

Or you can place 6 of the D Blocks above the A Blocks.

Block B can be ordered above one of the D Blocks - or below it. Block B and it's D Block can also be placed to the left to the grouping of 6 D Blocks and A Blocks.

Block C can be placed at the top, at the bottom, or depending on how the other groups of blocks are laid out, above a row of 4 D Blocks. The possibilities are endless!

My recommendation is to not worry about it too much right now. Once you have all of the blocks down, break out that design and start mixing around the blocks until you get a layout you like the best.

Reminder - Trick or Treat Challenge Drive By Tomorrow!

Just a reminder that 2021 Raincross Quilt Guild members can pick up their 1/2 yard of 2021 Challenge Fabric tomorrow between 9am and Noon at Sandy S.'s house in Riverside. We will be checking off your names and the names of your fellow members for whom you are picking up their fabric. And you can still buy coordinating fabric from Easy Quilting Corner by stopping by the shop or online by searching for "raincross".

We will also have a few charity quilt kits available if you'd like to pick up, Hospice quilt labels if you need some, or if you have charity quilts to drop off (no chopped salad).

If you can't make it tomorrow and you need help getting your fabric, send the guild an email (raincrossqg@gmail.com) and we'll figure it out. Thanks!

Announcing the 2021 Raincross Quilt Guild Challenge!

We've hinted at it and it's finally here! The 2021 Raincross Quilt Guild Challenge, starring the beautiful Damask Pumpkins fabric from Spooky Night collection by Grace Popp for Studio E! Many thanks to Faten at Easy Quilting Corner for assisting us with the fabric and making available so many of the beautiful coordinating fabrics!

Each current Raincross Quilt Guild will receive 1 half yard of this fabric to create...whatever you want! Challenge projects will be due in a few months, but! We need to get you your fabric!

So, we are going to have Drive By Trick-or-Treat in May! Instead of us coming to you, we invite you to participate in our socially distanced drive by Trick-or-Treat on Saturday May 15th from 9:00am to 12:00pm at Sandy S.'s house in Riverside; her address is in the book or you can post below to request it be emailed to you.

If you unfortunately cannot participate, please feel free to ask a guildmate (you trust!) to pick up your fabric for you and we'll hand your pumpkin sister your fabric and mark you as having received it. If you are still unable to make plans to get your fabric on the day, contact us and we'll help you figure out something.

As Faten did last year, she has purchased many of the gorgeous coordinating fabrics and panels from this line, which are now available at her shop, Easy Quilting Corner, at 1860 Chicago Ave Suite G-15 Riverside, CA 92507 and online at https://www.easyquiltingcorner.com/. You can shop the collection either in person at the store or online by searching "raincross". If you plan on purchasing coordinating fabrics, we encourage you to do so soon!

These are just a few...

We can't wait to see you on the 15th and then to see your spooktacular creations!

If you have questions, give me, Paula W., a text/call/email/smoke signal and I will try to answer them. Thanx! Crazy Paula

Last BOM Blocks for 2020 + Info on 2021 BOM!

Hi gang! Thank you for your patience as I'm little late getting the last blocks of the Raincross Quilt Guild 2020 Block of the month, Be My Neighbor, published. You have three blocks left, plus I've included a link to the finishing instructions. We can't wait to see everyone's quilt at the March meeting!

December Block 14 and Block 15

January Block 16

Finishing Instructions

If you've already finished yours, please feel free to send photos of it to Cassandra in preparation for the big reveal in March!

My 2021 BOM project stash

This year's Raincross Quilt Guild Block of the Month will be a Christmas Mystery Quilt! The finished quilt is comprised of 11 "blocks" (muwhahaha! more to be revealed) and will have a finished size of 48" x 54" - but feel free to add borders to make it a bit bigger! I unfortunately can't give you yardage requirements. You are welcome to use all the same background fabric, but some blocks definitely lend themselves to not having a white/light background, so my best recommendation is to go scrappy and use up bits in your stash. We'll have a variety of techniques and lots of options, so I already can't wait to see everyone's quilt!

The first Block will be published in March, so get ready!
- Cassandra G.
