October 2019 Meeting Review

On Tuesday we were joined by Shirley McGuire of EZ-Woolworks. Shirley is fabric dyer and a fabulous wool quilting craftsperson. She gave a great presentation on the types of wools available, how to felt wool, and how to prevent moths eating your collection! She also brought lots of beautiful patterns and kits for sale.

Shirley is joining us this Saturday for a workshop where she'll be teaching us various techniques including dyeing, wool appliqué, felting, and more. Click here for more information and contact Tami A. or Andie B. as spots are still available.

Photos from Shirley's presentation and trunk show and our regular Show and Share segment are available here.

On Moths:
Shirley uses Pro-Pest Pantry Moths and Beetle Trap which are available from Amazon, WalMart and other retailers.

When she is repurposing wool from garments that she's purchased from charity shops, Shirley disassembles the garment outside and stores it outside tightly wrapped in plastic bags, only bringing it inside to directly go into a hot washer and hot dryer to prevent any possible moth eggs that may be in the garment. Another option is to store the garment in the freezer 12-24 hours to kill off any eggs.

Block of the Month
We had a few folks bring in some recent Blocks of the Month, which was great to this! This month, since we always miss February and who doesn't love fall, we're going to make Nordic Hearts. The pattern is ready for you!

Round Robin
Our next exchange is due at the November meeting, so you better get going! Every notice how the round robins are getting bigger and bigger? Who's excited to see your top!? I can't wait!!
