A Preview of May 24th Workshop
In May, we are having a workshop by Marguerite Tate of Redlands. Marguerite teaches a simplified form of applique and the art of embellishment. She also makes the most darling pincushion - so creative and fun. I saw them at the Hemet show this year and they were so cute! Go here and here to learn more about Marguerite and her work. Both posts are from a member of the Antelope Valley Quilt Association Guild - they had Marguerite come twice in the same year, they enjoyed her work so much. So you won't want to miss this one.

I'll post later with more projects choices. Essentially, it is $20 for the class plus $10 - $35 for the kits. Extra embellishment supplies are available for $2 - $3. Background is separate, $15 each, but you can bring your own. Sign-ups will begin at the April meeting.

A Heads Up!
In past years we had a guild Yard Sale in August. Well, last year we missed out as we didn't have time for such an event. So this year - it's An April Spring Cleaning! Much like the yard sale, this is an opportunity while you're spring cleaning your sewing area to weed out what you don't want any more - be it orphan blocks, scraps, notions you no longer use, UFOs you're no longer wanting to finish - whatever quilty stuff - bring it to the April Spring Cleaning at the April meeting and sell or give it away then. Bring some change, find a spot and watch it disappear.
A reminder - Tuesday is our next guild meeting. Janet of Blue Bird Quilts will be our speaker. No Mystery Box or Thrifty Corner.

More about our 2014 BOM

Raincross Quilt Guild Block of the Month 2014
The blocks we will be making will measure 6½” unfinished. Once we put the blocks together they will measure 6”. Some of the blocks are based on a nine-patch and some on a four patch. Refer to the following measurements for the nine-patch style block (see pdf with diagrams). If a block is based on a four-patch the dimensions will be given but the directions are the same.
We started by making 4 bear paws. Throughout the year we will be making 20 additional
blocks. Sashing and borders will be added at the end to complete the Raincross Quilt Guild
2014 Sampler which will measure approximately 45“ by 45”.

A Sister Blog
Yep, we have a sister blog now. You can see it here.
What is it? A place to share what we create as we make our Blocks of the Month at Raincross. I'm betting quite a few of us still have a pile of blocks won, a block made and orphaned, a block that never got shown. There are probably also piles of blocks from former guild swaps, or squares exchanged.
So to encourage us to start to work on those forgotten BIPs (blocks in Pause), our sister blog is here to help. You can show the current BOM block or a past one - whatever you are working on. If we all work just 15 minutes a day on BIPs - bet we'd have a lot to show. And of course we can share our 2014 BOM blocks too.
All you need to do to join in is go to our sister blog, leave a message there, and instructions on how easy it is to post will be sent to you.

Changes to Calendar
Community Sew Day is on hold til we find a location. Perhaps there'll be an announcement at the March Meeting. Stay tuned.
For March and April there will be no Thrifty Corner or Mystery Bag.
You can still bring your donations to Carol H (Thrifty Corner) or Deanna B (Mystery Box) at those meetings. They will gladly accept them. The reason for this is in March we have a Trunk Show and the vendor will probably have items for sale. In April, it's our Annual Yard Sale. The month of May may be the same - I'll post as soon as I find out.

has started as announced at the last meeting. This year Susan has a mystery for us. March block is up. You can find it under the BOM tab under the header. Will be interesting to see what colors and fabrics everyone picks.
